The details

About these termsThese are the rules for using heytardy, the English speaking-practice app.
  • "heytardy" means the heytardy app and website. "We" and "us" mean the team that runs it; "you" means the person using it.
  • By using heytardy you agree to these terms. If you don't agree, please don't use it.
  • You need to be at least 13 years old to create an account.
Your accountYou sign in with Google. One account per person; keep it to yourself.
  • Today the only way to sign in is with a Google account. Other sign-in options may come later.
  • Use your own Google account. Don't share your heytardy account or sign in as someone else.
  • Without an account you can try a little of heytardy. Most of it — practice, Daily Speak, the course and Missions — needs you to sign in.
Free and Proheytardy is free. Pro has higher daily limits and is only given out by us for now — there's no paid plan.
  • A free account includes, each day: 15 scored answers, 5 new practice questions, 1 Daily Speak and 10 shadowing checks. Missions: 7 conversations a week. The first season of the course is open.
  • Pro raises these: 100 scored answers, 20 new questions, 5 Daily Speaks and 60 shadowing checks a day, 7 Missions a day, and every season of the course.
  • Pro isn't for sale. We switch it on by hand for some learners, and we can switch it off again.
  • There's no payment, subscription or billing in heytardy today, so these terms make no promises about paid plans. If we ever offer one, we'll publish its terms first and you'll see them before you pay.
  • We may change these limits. The app always shows what you have left.
Fair useLimits keep heytardy free for everyone. Daily limits reset at midnight UTC.
  • Each limit resets at midnight UTC. When you reach one, the app tells you; your saved work isn't affected.
  • One Missions conversation can use up to 4 minutes of your speaking and lasts at most 20 minutes from start to finish.
  • Missions also have a daily total shared by all learners. When it's used up, new conversations wait until the next day.
  • Don't try to get around a limit, for example with extra accounts, scripts, or by clearing cookies to look like a new visitor.
Using heytardy properlyPractise English in good faith. Don't abuse people, the AI or the service.
  • Don't record or upload other people speaking without their permission.
  • Don't use heytardy to say or send anything illegal, hateful, threatening or sexual.
  • Mission characters stay in character. Don't try to trick them or the feedback into ignoring their instructions or producing harmful content.
  • Don't copy heytardy's content in bulk, scrape it, overload the service, probe it for weaknesses or try to get into other people's accounts.
  • If you break these rules, we may limit or close your account.
AI feedback and band scoresFeedback and band scores are AI estimates to help you practise, not an official IELTS result.
  • Your speech is turned into text by speech recognition, then an AI model writes the feedback and score. Both can make mistakes.
  • A band score is an estimate against the public IELTS speaking descriptors. Your real test result may be different.
  • heytardy is not affiliated with, or endorsed by, the IELTS partners (British Council, IDP: IELTS Australia and Cambridge University Press & Assessment). IELTS is a trademark of its owners.
  • Model answers and corrections are suggestions for practice. Use your own judgement.
Who owns whatYour answers stay yours. heytardy's lessons, audio and pictures belong to us.
  • What you say and write in heytardy stays yours. You let us use it only as the privacy policy describes. We don't sell your data.
  • heytardy's lessons, stories, questions, model answers, audio, illustrations and mission scenes are ours. You may use them for your own learning.
  • Please don't copy, sell or republish them without asking us first.
