The details

Who we areheytardy is an app and website for practising spoken English.
  • In this policy, "heytardy" means the heytardy app and website, and "we" means the team that runs it.
  • Questions about your data: hello@heytardy.com.
Signing inYou sign in with Google. We get your name, email and profile picture — never your password.
  • Google tells us your name, email address and profile picture link. We save them with an internal account id.
  • A cookie keeps you signed in for 30 days.
  • If you're not signed in, a signed, random device id cookie (kept for a year) lets us apply fair-use limits. It isn't linked to your name.
Your recordingsAudio is turned into text on our servers and then discarded. We never save the sound file.
  • When you answer out loud (IELTS Speaking, Daily Speak, the course, Shadowing), your recording is sent to our server, transcribed, and discarded. Only the text is kept.
  • Before you sign in, your homepage answers stay in this browser. They're only sent when you sign in to have them scored.
  • In Missions, your voice is streamed live to speech-to-text during the call. We keep how long the call ran and how many turns it had — not what was said.
What we keepYour account, the text of your answers, the feedback on them, and your progress.
  • Account: name, email, picture link, plan (free or Pro), app language, and the date you joined.
  • How you found heytardy: the link or site you came from when you signed up (for example, one of our videos). Only the site's name is kept, not the page.
  • Your answers when you set up the app (all optional): what you're learning English for, your level, how many minutes a day you have, your IELTS target and exam month, what you find hardest, your plans, an age range, and how you heard about us. We use them to shape your daily plan.
  • IELTS Speaking: the questions, the transcript of your answer, fluency measures like pace and pauses, and the AI feedback — which quotes your words and suggests fixes.
  • Daily Speak: the day's question, your transcript, feedback, and a one-line note about your day that Lily remembers. You can delete those notes.
  • Course and Shadowing: what you said for each phrase, how it went, your progress, and when each review card is due.
  • Words you save, Missions stars, the days you practised (your streak), your email settings, and a log of the emails we sent you.
  • We keep this while you have an account. The Missions usage log is deleted after 30 days.
  • Separately, the AI service's request logs keep the text of what you said and the AI's replies for up to 30 days (see below). Your recordings are not logged.
Who helps us run heytardyCloudflare, Deepgram, Google, Sentry and Resend handle data for us — only to do their job.
  • Cloudflare hosts the site and database, and runs the AI that transcribes your recordings and writes your feedback (Workers AI, through Cloudflare AI Gateway).
  • Cloudflare AI Gateway keeps a log of AI requests — the text of what you said and the AI's reply — for up to 30 days, so we can fix problems and improve feedback. Then it's deleted. Your recordings are not logged.
  • Cloudflare Web Analytics counts page views and measures how fast pages load. It uses no cookies and doesn't identify you.
  • Deepgram transcribes your voice live in Missions and makes the app's voices — including reading out improved versions of your own sentences.
  • Google handles sign-in.
  • Sentry receives error reports so we can fix bugs. It's set not to collect personal details by default.
  • Resend sends our emails.
  • We don't sell your data, and we don't share it with anyone except these services, so they can do this work for us.
EmailsAn occasional nudge when you've been away — at most one a week, easy to turn off.
  • If you stop practising, we may email a reminder: reviews that are due, your next episode, or your streak.
  • Never more than one a week, and we stop after three you don't respond to.
  • Every email has an unsubscribe link, and you can switch reminders off in your Profile.
On your deviceTwo cookies, browser storage for your settings, and cookieless page-view counting. No ad trackers.
  • Cookies: one keeps you signed in; the other is the anonymous device id described above.
  • Browser storage holds your settings (language, sound, autoplay), small progress hints, a copy of your data so pages open faster, and homepage answers you haven't sent yet.
  • Cloudflare Web Analytics adds a small script that counts page views and load times. It sets no cookies.
  • Clearing this site's data in your browser removes the cookies and storage.
Using answers to improve heytardyAnonymised, combined answers may help us improve our feedback. Your answers are never shown publicly.
  • Your answers and the feedback on them are used to show you your results and progress.
  • We may also use anonymised, combined answers — never your name or your voice — to improve the quality of heytardy's feedback.
  • We never show your answers publicly: not in lessons, posts or videos.
Your choicesSee your history any time, delete parts of it, or delete your whole account yourself.
  • Your past answers and feedback are in History.
  • You can delete saved words and Daily Speak notes yourself.
  • To delete your account and everything in it, use Delete account at the bottom of Profile. It happens right away.
  • To get a copy of your data, email hello@heytardy.com. We'll reply within 30 days.
  • AI request logs (up to 30 days, see above) aren't removed by deleting your account. They expire on their own.
Childrenheytardy is meant for learners aged 13 and over.
  • heytardy is meant for learners aged 13 and over. Setup asks for an age range (optional), not your birthday.
  • If you think a child under 13 has signed up, email us and we'll delete the account.
Changes to this policyWhen this policy changes, the date at the top changes too.
  • We'll update the date at the top of this page whenever the policy changes.
  • For important changes, we'll tell signed-in learners in the app or by email first.
